Charter Cancellation Policy
Title tag: Charter Cancellation Policy · Refund Tiers, Weather, Self-Drive In force: 1 January 2025 · Reviewed: 6 May 2026
Plans shift, weather closes in, flights get delayed. The cancellation policy on every Boat Charter Dubrovnik booking is built so that you can recover most of what you paid in most situations — and 100% of it whenever the captain calls the day off.
This page is the operational document. The high-level summary is on the booking page; the legal version sits in Terms Rule 8.

The three customer-cancellation tiers
| Notice given | Refund of total paid | Free reschedule available? |
|---|---|---|
| More than 24 hours before departure | 100% | Yes — any open date in 2026 |
| Between 12 and 24 hours | 50% | Yes, with the 50% fee waived if an equivalent slot exists |
| Less than 12 hours, or no-show | 0% | Only at our discretion |
Departure time is the time printed on your confirmation, in Croatian local time (CET in winter, CEST in summer). The clock runs on calendar hours, not business hours — a charter departing 09:00 Monday is in the 24-hour window from 09:00 Sunday onwards.
Why these tiers and not “always 100% refund”?
Boat Charter Dubrovnik isn’t a re-sellable retail product — it’s a unit of marina time, fuel and crew. When a Cap Camarat 9.0 CC is held against your name for Wednesday afternoon, the skipper has been scheduled, the fuel topped up, the cooler iced, and the marina slot reserved. Cancellations 24+ hours out give us time to refill the slot. Cancellations under 12 hours rarely allow that.
Weather cancellations — always 100%, no exceptions
If we cancel a Boat Charter Dubrovnik because the sea is unsafe to charter into, you get 100% back or a free reschedule — your choice, no questions, no admin fee. We don’t try to push through marginal-bura mornings to keep the deposit.
The captain’s call is made on:
- Sea state (wave height, period, direction)
- Wind (sustained and gust forecast on the marine band)
- Visibility (fog ceiling, especially shoulder seasons)
- Croatian Hydrographic Institute and DHMZ marine advisories
A weather call is communicated as early as we can confirm it — typically the evening before, occasionally at 06:00 the morning of, very rarely on the dock. We send the call by WhatsApp first, email second.
What does not count as a weather cancellation
- Light rain or overcast skies on a sailable sea
- A breeze that makes the cabin chilly but is well within Cat. C operating limits
- A forecast you saw on a holiday-app — ours is the call
If you cancel for weather you didn’t like, but the captain has cleared the day, the standard tiers apply. Light rain at sea is a different experience from light rain on land — most guests are glad they kept the booking.
Free reschedule — the better option in many cases
Rather than cancel, shift the date. If you’re in Dubrovnik for several nights, moving a Tuesday morning charter to Thursday afternoon is the most common save we run. There’s no fee for the move and no surcharge if the new slot is in higher demand.
Free reschedule applies:
- Anytime, with no notice limit, when we call weather
- 24+ hours before departure, when you initiate
- 12–24 hours before, when you initiate and we have an equivalent open slot in the same week
Send the request to info@boatcharterdubrovnik.com or via WhatsApp; Marin confirms within an hour during operating times.
How to cancel — three channels, one outcome
WhatsApp +385 99 380 4156 (fastest)
Most cancellations confirm here in under 10 minutes. Quote your booking reference (six characters, letters and numbers, in your confirmation email).
Email info@boatcharterdubrovnik.com
We reply within 2 hours during operating times (08:00–20:00 CET). Subject: “Cancel — [reference]”. Body: name on booking, charter date, refund or reschedule preference.
Booking form on the site
The contact form has a “Cancellation / reschedule” subject. Slowest of the three because it’s email under the hood, but fine if you don’t have WhatsApp.
What the message has to contain
- Booking reference
- Name on the booking
- Charter date
- Whether you want a refund or a reschedule
- For reschedules: 1–2 candidate alternative dates
You’ll get a written confirmation back the same operating session.
Refund processing — when does the money land?
| How you paid | Time to your account |
|---|---|
| Stripe / credit / debit card | 5–10 business days |
| PayPal | 3–5 business days |
| SEPA bank transfer | 5–10 business days |
| GetYourGuide / Viator / TripAdvisor | the platform’s own timeline (we trigger the refund the same day) |
Refunds always return to the original payment route. We can’t redirect a card refund to a different card or to a bank account.
If the refund hasn’t landed
- Look harder — Stripe refunds sometimes show under “Stripe” rather than our brand. PayPal refunds appear in the original PayPal balance, not your linked card.
- Ask your bank — some retail banks queue inbound refunds for 3 days even after they’ve cleared.
- Tell us — if the SLA above has passed, write to info@boatcharterdubrovnik.com with your reference and we’ll pull the Stripe / PayPal trace and forward it within 24 hours.
Group, charter-fleet and multi-day bookings
These run under modified terms because the operational hold is bigger.
Group bookings (15+ guests, multi-vessel)
- 14+ days before: 100% refund
- 7–14 days: 50%
- Inside 7 days: no refund
Multi-day yacht charters (overnight)
- 30+ days before: 100% refund
- 14–30 days: 50%
- Inside 14 days: no refund
- Skipper-called weather day inside the trip: per-day pro-rata refund
These tiers are confirmed in the booking confirmation; if your confirmation says something different, it overrides this page for your booking.
Self-drive Boat Charter Dubrovnik — damage deposit handling
Independently of cancellation, the €500 refundable damage deposit taken at the marina is returned within 5 business days of the boat coming back undamaged. If there’s damage, you’ll receive an itemised report inside 48 hours; the damage cost is offset against the deposit and the residue refunded. The optional €25/day damage waiver bought at booking removes liability for everything except gross negligence.
Common cases we see
“Our flight is delayed.” Tell us before the original departure time and we reschedule free, even inside the 12-hour window. If you’re unreachable and you miss the boat, the no-show clause applies.
“Half our group can’t come.” Reduce the booking to the new size — we refund the difference at the relevant tier and the charter sails for the remaining party.
“The charter cut short because of a sudden squall.” If the captain called us back early for safety, we’ll offer a partial refund or a discounted rebooking proportional to the unfinished portion.
“I got food poisoning the night before.” Same tier as any other personal cancellation. We strongly recommend travel insurance for this scenario — the cancellation cover usually pays out where ours doesn’t.
“I want to swap my booking onto a friend.” Yes — give us 12 hours’ notice; the new lead booker becomes the named guest at no fee.
What we promise back to you
We’d genuinely rather refund a charter than push someone onto a sea they’re nervous about. The Boat Charter Dubrovnik you book is a single day on the Adriatic — if the day isn’t right, the day isn’t right, and we’ll work the schedule to find one that is.
If you want to talk through the timing on your specific booking, WhatsApp Marin directly. He runs every Boat Charter Dubrovnik cancellation personally.
